Time-Lapse Tuesday: France’s Île Saint-Honorat
This tiny island may very well be the Mediterranean’s most tranquil spot.
On Île Saint-Honorat you can’t smoke, light up a barbecue or play loud music. But that doesn’t stop travellers from nearby Cannes seeking a glimpse of a more monastic way of life.
The island offers visitors quiet beaches and peaceful strolls in which to unwind. Visitors will also want to check out the historic Abbey of Lérins, which dates back to 410 AD. Despite numerous attacks and expulsions through the centuries, a Cistercian community of monks still calls the island home.
No longer plagued by threats from the sea, the monks tend the island’s vineyards, creating wine and liqueur for visitors to buy.
