Your Planet in 7 Seconds: Itchy seal in New Zealand
What’s got this fur seal so worked up? Watch him let it all go as he scratches up a solution on these rocks.
Sometimes when you get that itch, you just gotta dance. See this fur seal flick his flippers as he moves to his own rhythm next to the waters of Kaikoura in New Zealand.
This town is a popular haunt for wildlife watchers. Aside from the resident colony of seals, you can spot sperm whales and dolphins swimming in the nearby waters. Look up, and you’ll see seabirds including albatrosses, petrels and shearwaters taking wing overhead.
Kaikoura is set against the dramatic backdrop of the Seaward Kaikoura mountains, a branch of New Zealand’s Southern Alps. Hiking and nature trails are popular activities, if you don’t feel like snorkelling or just following this fur seal and staying by the beach.
